Joan Cwaik is a 25 years old entrepreneur, speaker, technologist, researcher, professor and author which principal interests are disruptive technologies, new media, robotics trends, artificial intelligence applications and social innovation.
At his 16, he started to help his father in markets research, opportunities and strategic gaps in South America. Since his 23 he became the Marketing & Communication Manager at Maytronics for Latin America which gives him the know-how in an international robotics corporation.
He has a Bachelor in Media and Entertainment Management (Universidad Argentina de la Empresa - UADE) and one of the first postgraduates in Multimedia Convergence (Universidad de Buenos Aires - UBA). He also teaches in UADE about what he knows best: new media, digital paradigms, innovation and videogames.
Joan was the Co-Founder and CEO at GoD (Games on Demand), a startup that got to the final at the Intel Challenge 2013, entering the TOP 10 in the category “Internet, Mobile & Computational Software,” being one of the best technological and business projects in Argentina during that year. Moreover, he was selected as one of the forty competitors of the first reality/hackathon of Google, Developer Bus Buenos Aires 2013.
In 2014, he was the Co-Founder, Cryptocurrencies & IT innovation of Darwin Research & Think Tank (an non-governmental entity of research center of disruptive technologies), which aimed to solve social problems through technology like 3D printing (known for making the first 3D printed low-cost prosthetic hand in Argentina), bitcoin, augmented reality, teaching coding, drones study and virtual reality applications.
During the last years, he actively participates as an author, opinion leader and columnist in technology at Infobae (a well-recognized news web portal), C5N (TV channel), Clarín and La Nacion (the two most prestigious national journals in the country).
Joan was one of the main conceptualizers of digital economy and cryptography applications in Argentina, working actively with the NGO Bitcoin Argentina at the dissemination of the Blockchain and Bitcoin technologies. Moreover, he is a collaborator at The Net Party (Partido de la Red, in Spanish) a political party with a global projection based on the Internet, that proposes an online form of liquid democracy; it calls itself the "net democracy".
He spoke in high-up events, companies and congresses like TEDx, PechaKucha, Red Innova, Educating the Brain, Social Media Day and Open Data Day, and is invited to speak frequently in the news (seen on CNN (USA), Univision (USA), RT (Russia), Rede Globo (Brazil), and so on) and also in foreign events as an strong influencer and opinion leader, especially on the social and corporate impacts of disruptive technologies in Latin America.
In 2015, he was nominated by the prestigious MIT Technology Review and the Argentinean business magazine Apertura as one of the most young influential social innovators and technology entrepreneurs from Argentina and Uruguay.
Behind all that stuff, Joan is funny, likes to take naps occasionally when he has some free time and have a Golden Retriever named Baxter. He speaks fluent Hebrew, English and a little bit of Portuguese. When he was a teenager he used to collect and play Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon RPG playing cards. He lives in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
